If you visit the Big Berry Resort in Metlika, Slovenia, chances are that one of the interns will invite you to participate in one of their bi-weekly “Mastermind” sessions. At the Big Berry Resort, the interns’ main mission is to completely pamper visitors.

The peaceful environment
Big Berry offers a secluded, peaceful setting amidst a lush landscape. Located on the Kolpa River, you will find plenty of peace and quiet during your stay here. There are only 7 houses for rent on the site, and they are spread over a nice big area with lots of space between them.
It is a fantastic experience to get up here in the morning, put on the bathrobe (how lovely), take a seat on the porch, and just stare at the scenery. Lush green trees line both sides of the river, and for many hours of the day you’ll see people with blankets and picnic baskets plopped down on their towels.
Breakfast baskets
The best part of staying at Big Berry is the breakfast. You get a sheet of paper with dozens of different local vendors to choose from, and everything is delicious and healthy!
Lovely to tear apart the fresh bread and add some sliced organic meats, as well as local cheese. You’ll love it and when you wash it down with a fresh pear juice, your day is basically made.
On the Kolpa River, enjoy canoeing
Now you don’t have to be an outdoor enthusiast to still have a fantastic time after just an hour of paddling on the Kolpa River. Although there are not many places to visit, you will undoubtedly be surprised by the natural beauty. The reflections of the trees in the river might cause you to reconsider your life choices.
DOMAČIJA Kuzma & swimming till late at night
The excursion to the local hotspot Domačija Kuzma, organized by the staff, is an experience you will always cherish during your stay at the resort and therefore definitely do not want to miss.
To begin with, you will be given a tour of the grounds from which the mill was purchased by the family in 1909. You’ll also find out how the company has grown and changed over the centuries. The first mentions of the mill date back to the 17th century….
Then there is a tour of the flour mill, but the real fun begins when they start pouring several shots of their homemade rakija (a well-known “digestive” drink in Eastern Europe).
Late at night, the opportunity to jump into the river for a swim is just the perfect way to end the day. The stars often shine brightly and the water is surprisingly warm. Share interesting and fantastic conversations in the wide international group that shares this evening with you. Again, this is really a lot of fun!
Kroppa River
The lovely hamlet of Kroppa River is a 15-20 minute drive from Big Berry Property. This region is not big, but it is almost too good to be true. You can spend hours here e.g. reading and relaxing by the water. Bring your guitar (or your pan flute, or anything that can sound relaxing) and some food and a better way to spend your afternoon relaxing hardly exists.

Local oil & wine tasting
Big Berry works with dozens of local organizations, so it organized a private tour for the team to visit a winery and an oil-producing plant. Although both tours were short, the staff learned quite a bit about the processes used at each location.
Luxurious living
Before your visit to Big Berry, you may not have a real idea of how awe-inspiringly luxurious the resort is! The properties are great, and each has its own private hot tub on the balcony. While you may not use it every night, you can splash in it whenever it suits you.
The houses are well equipped and very comfortable. The air conditioning performs its only task wonderfully in order to escape the summer heat. You have a fully equipped kitchen if you want to cook, and the beds are great!
Interns
Finally, one of the most special parts of staying at Big Berry is the staff. The resort is run entirely by international interns who are incredibly friendly and helpful and will do everything they can to make you feel comfortable during your stay there.
