Looking for a good pair of headphones without spending too much? Then look no further than the Audio-Technica ATH-M20X BT headphones. These headphones offer great sound quality at an affordable price, making them a popular choice for many music lovers. In this article, we discuss the features of the ATH-M20X BT headphones and why they are such good value for money.
In Brief
The ATH-M20xBT builds on the popular wired ATH-M20x studio headphones and features powerful 40 mm drivers for improved low-frequency sound. In addition, it can be connected wirelessly to two devices at once which is an ideal feature for the multimedia user. The battery has a very long life and can be used continuously for up to about 60 hours after being fully charged. The ATH-M20xBT also comes with a 1.2 m cable for optimal wired connection.
Sound Quality
The Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT headphones are a good choice for those looking for affordable headphones that still deliver great sound quality. The bass is well balanced and not too aggressive or passive, making it a good choice for listening to a variety of music genres. The midrange is also impressive with vocals and instruments sounding clear and accurate. While the ATH-M20xBT may not quite meet the standards of the company’s more expensive models, it is still very well tuned and delivers a pleasant sound.
Operation and digital assistant
The ATH-M20xBT’s control scheme is straightforward. There are no touch controls or motion sensors for automatic pausing. On the back of the left earcup is a three-button module that gives you access to a range of functions, including play/pause, call management, volume control, digital assistance, and listen mode. All you need to know is that each button responds to single and multiple pressure gestures and offers good tactility. Also supported are Siri and Google Assistant.
Design and comfort
Audio-Technica seems unconvinced about the use of heavy metal components in headphones, so the ATH-M20X BT is a model which mostly consists of plastic elements. This makes this lightweight champion ideal for long hours at work, or when you’re on the go.
The signature minimalist style has been kept intact, as seen in the all-black plastic housing with leather trim, thin metal extensions and the logo on each earcup. The design is effective for people who like simple and functional designs.
The lack of swivel earcups is unfortunately a less practical design choice by Audio-Technica, as it increases the chances of breakage damage if you put it in your carry-on. Incidentally, the ATH-M20xBT also does not come with a carrying case or pouch.
Battery life
Audio-Technica estimates that the battery will last 60 hours, although you may only get about 55 hours of use if you include high volume and latency mode. Still, this is an incredible amount compared to its competitors. In terms of game time usage, you would have more than 20 hours left after a week of sessions averaging 5 hours per day. Few competitors can boast similar results.
A 10-minute charge gets you 3 hours of use, which is longer than noise-canceling headphones like the Bose 700 (15 minutes = 2 hours) but also lower than giants like the Sony WH-1000XM4 (10 minutes = 5 hours). So impressive in every way.
The verdict
For $89, the Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT offers far more functionality than you might expect. You don’t get the company’s best audio performance, but what you get is far better than what most under-$100 models deliver. Music sounds alive and listeners can go three weeks without a charge. In addition, the wireless range is more than enough to roam the house without downtime.
So if you don’t want to spend too much, but love music and enjoy experiencing it, these headphones are highly recommended!
